School of Architecture

The predecessor of School of Architecture was Department of Architecture of TJUCI , founded in 1982. It includes three departments, which are Architecture, Urban and Rural Planning and Landscape Architecture.

The architecture undergraduate program began enrollment in 1982, now schooling for five years, as well as urban and rural planning undergraduate program. The landscape architecture undergraduate program is offered with four years schooling. In addition, we also offer three Master’s Degree in architecture, urban and rural planning, and landscape architecture with three years schooling.


Our program of architecture has passed National Specialty Evaluation in 2011, which means we are offering the same high level education as other 356 institutes in the world according to the Canberra Accord. In 2012, in the Rank of National Academic, our discipline of architecture ranked 24th, urban and rural planning ranked 19th and landscape architecture ranked 36th. 

Our study programs are designed in close cooperation with relevant industries and taught by highly qualified teachers with experience in relevant fields. Recently, 109 full-time teachers are involved into our three professional bachelor programs. Most of them have Master or PhD degree. Associate professors or above titles account for 40.7%, including 15 professors, 29 associate professors. There are 25 tutors for master program, including 14 for architecture discipline, 5 for urban and rural planning and 8 for landscape architecture. In addition, we invite 36 experts who have strong influence in the field of teaching or design as part-time master tutors or teachers. 


Up to now, 2590 bachelor students have graduated from our school, including 1636 students from architecture, 360 students from urban and rural planning, and 594 from landscape architecture. 239 graduate students have gotten certifications from our master programs.
There are 1432 students in the school, including 643 for architecture undergraduate program, 348 for urban and rural planning, 261 for landscape architecture, and 180 graduate students for master program.



In the last three years, the discipline of architecture and urban & rural planning of our school have established two research institutes, which are Tianjin Green Residential Construction Technology and Engineering Center, and TCU Institute of Historical Town Planning. The disciplines are funded about 20 million yuan and hosted more than 20 national or provincial research projects. These two disciplines have formed six research fields: living environment and ecological construction, historical architecture and cultural heritage conservation, green building technology and application, spatial environment design, small-town planning, region planning, which have been applied to several projects such as Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-city, Tianjin Old City Conservation and Preservation, and Tianjin small-town constructions, etc.
