The School of Architecture, founded in 1982, is the top research and teaching institution that offers both undergraduate and postgraduate education in Tianjin building industry.

With 3 Departments( Department of Architecture, Department of Urban&Rural Planning and Department of Landscape Architecture), the School is focusing on the undergraduate education, and vigorously developing postgraduate education and gradually engaging in international education by offering students numerous program options to best purse their individual interests and goals.

The School takes the comprehensive artistic and social approach that integrates much related branches of study to teach. With the core of design studio, the study programs are designed in close cooperation with relevant courses and taught by highly-qualified faculties with rich experience. Meanwhile, the School also invites many experts as part-time teachers or master tutors.

Undergraduate Level:  

1.Architecture(5 years)  

The Architecture has passed the National Specialty Evaluation authorized by Canberra Accord, and recognized by the signatories, which means the quality of the program is in the first rank in China. Its curriculum centers on the design studio, which is the primary academic component of each semester. This studio training is coupled with imaginative and comprehensive instruction in architectural history, technology, theory, digital media, techniques of representation and professional concerns.

In addition, the Architecture curriculum places emphasis on significant study in the liberal arts and sciences. The approach in all coursework emphasizes a variety of theories, points of view, methods, and goals.

Principles of Architecture Design I - IV, Investigation Method of Architecture Design, History of Chinese Architecture History of Foreign Architecture, Conservation and Renewal of Historic Building, Design Method of Green Building, Principles of Urban Design, Urban Planning Principle, Digital Design, Site Planning and Design, Building Structural Concepts;  

Building Mechanics and Structures, Architectural Construction, Building Physics, Building Equipment (Drainage), Building Service Engineering (HVAC), Building Equipment (Electricity), Introduction to Building Construction, Application of Building Materials；  

Professional English, Architectural Programming, Codes for Architecture Design, Architectural Safety, Construction Drawing Design and Quality Control, Architect Business, Budget Estimate and Economic Management of Construction Projects.  

2.Urban & Rural Planning(5 years)  

The Urban & Rural Planning has passed the National Specialty Evaluation, whose curriculum centers on training graduates who meet the needs of the country's urban and rural construction and development. Its modules includes basic theory and application practice of urban and rural planning, focusing on training survey and design, urban and rural development management, research on urban and rural development.

Architecture Studio I- II, Urban Planning Design Studio I- IV；  

Engineering Survey, Introduction to Engineering Geology & Hydrogeology, Principles of Architecture Design, Brief History of Chinese and Foreign Architecture, Introduction to Urban Landscape Design, Principles of Architecture Design, History of Chinese and Foreign City Construction, Principles of Urban and Rural Planning, Professional English, Principles of Urban Design, System Engineering of Urban Planning；  

Urban Economics, Urban Ecology and Environment Planning, Urban Road Planning, Method of Social Investigation, Traffic Planning, The Principles of GIS, Planning of Municipal Engineering System, Introduction to Regional Planning, Conservation of Historic Cultural Heritage and Urban Renewal, Legislation and Administration for Urban Planning.  

3.Landscape Architecture

Students mainly study the basic knowledge and basic theory of landscape planning and design, landscape plants, landscape architecture, landscape engineering, ecology and other aspects of the landscape. Through field investigation and analysis, space planning and design, plant materials, engineering and construction management, text drawing expression and other aspects of the basic training, they can have the basic ability in technical and management work in landscape planning, design, construction, management, education, scientific research and other related departments.

Landscape Design of Plants, Landscape Architectural Design (1-2), Landscape Planning and Design (1-2)；  

Garden Dendrology, Garden Flower, Art Principles of Landscape Architecture, Principles of Landscape Architecture Planning and Design, History of Chinese and Foreign Gardens, Landscape Ecology, Planning of Urban and Rural Landscape and Green Space System, Landscape Engineering.  

Postgraduate Level:  

1.Architecture  

Students should be familiar with the basic architectural theories, as well as master the methods of research. After training, they can be competent with the architectural profession and related vacation fields with international visions and innovation inspirations.    

Main Courses:  

Architectural Studio (1-2)；  

Architectural Research Method, Survey and Analysis Research Method of Urban Planning and Architecture Design, Modern Architectural Theories and Ideological Trend, Ecological City and Green Building, Environmental Behavior Science, Art History, Architectural Planning, Professional English.  

2.Urban & Rural Planning  

The program is designed for those wishing to pursue a master degree in planning after having received a bachelor degree. Students should be familiar with the basic planning theories, as well as master the methods of research. The students can be competent with the planning profession and related vacation fields with international visions and innovation inspirations.  

Main Courses:  

Urban Planning Studio (1-2)；  

Modern Architectural Theories and Ideological Trend, Modern Urban Planning Theories and Ideological Trend, Modern Landscape Architecture Theories and Ideological Trend, Ecological City and Green Building, Art History, Methods of social investigation and analysis.  

3.Landscape Architecture  

Professional master degree of Landscape Architecture is a master of Landscape Architecture related field cultivation level of applied, compound, synthesis of high-level professionals. Students should grasp the basic theory of socialism with Chinese characteristics, independently bear the landscape architecture engineering practice of professional and technical ability, have the high cultural accomplishment and be able to get a comprehensive urban landscape architecture planning and design and engineering practice of practical problems.  

Main Courses:  

Landscape Planning and Design Studio (1-2)；  

Modern Architectural Theories and Ideological Trend, Modern Urban Planning Theories and Ideological Trend, Modern Landscape Architecture Theories and Ideological Trend, Ecological City and Green Building, Art History, Lecture on Landscape Ecology.  

Discipline Characteristics  

The School puts great stress on discipline construction, Architecture and Urban & Rural Planning have been approved as Tianjin Key Disciplines. Meanwhile, the School has also established 4 research institutions: Tianjin Green Building Collaborative Innovation Center, Tianjin Urbanization and Rural Construction Research Center, Institute of Historical Town Planning and Tianjin Green Residential Construction Technology Center.

By focusing on the needs of regional economic and social development and engaging in the cutting-edge technological research in the field of urbanization and urban development, the School has been innovative in the following research fields: architecture history, architecture design, heritage conservation, green building, ecological city, urban design, landscape design and art design, etc. In recent four years, the School has been funded nearly 12 million RMB and hosted more than 40 national or provincial research projects .
