The world's top 2% scientists list is a collaborative project between Stanford University led by Professor John P. A. Ioannidis, and Elsevier. This list consists of the "Career-Long Impact Rankings" and the "Single Year Impact Rankings". It aims to identify the top 2% of scientists globally from a pool of nearly 7 million scientists. The list was first released in July 2019 and is based on the systematic analysis of the citation data from the Scopus database. Selection criteria include citations (distinguishing self-citations from external citations), H-index and HM-factor(composite score, C-score). Scientists are classified into 22 scientific fields and 174 sub-fields according to the standard Science-Metrix classification. It provides a metric to assess the research performance of scientists and offers a more objective and accurate reflection of a scientist’s comprehensive impact throughout their academic career and their academic impact in the past year.
